The Powerful Girls Club (PGC) is a place for girls to have a safe, supportive and fun space to explore a wide range of themes from self-esteem to community. For girls to form positive and lasting connections with each other and learn to embrace their femininity and power to set themselves up for strong and happy futures.

Potion making, story telling, poem writing, craft making, dancing, journalling and so much more awaits….

The PGC an exciting new offering for girls aged 7-10 run by Bloom & Belong.

The club is a termly (approx 12 weeks) club with space for 10 girls to attend each

week at a local Primary School in Crowborough.

The club is an opportunity for girls to explore a wide range of topics (linked to the PSHE curriculum), connect with their peers and have fun by coming together in circle each week. Sitting in circle is an ancient, powerful experience rooted in connection where everybody is equal, valued and supported.

The first half term explores the mind body connection to develop a strong sense of self, and the second half term looks outwards to explore topics like friendships, communities and the world around us.

The rationale for the club is:

  • A 2022 report by the Children’s Society shows that children’s happiness continues to decline

  • More children are unhappy with their appearance than with family, friends, school and schoolwork. Girls are more likely to feel this way than boys.

  • 1 in 9 children have low wellbeing.

  • The report reveals that more girls are unhappy with their appearance than boys. Almost 1 in 5 (18%) - the equivalent of an estimated 411,000 young people - are unhappy with their looks compared to 10% of boys.

  • 1 in 9 children say they did not cope with the changes caused by coronavirus.

By exploring topics like self-esteem, self-image, self-talk and sense of identity, the club aims to address some of these reported issues.

Why sign up?

  • To have fun!

  • Learn to connect mind and body

  • Connect with others

  • Feel empowered and strong

  • Develop a strong sense of self, and connection to the wider community and world we live in

The commitment is for 12 weeks and the cost is £7 per session (£84 payable up front) which includes venue hire, resources and a light snack.

A note on gender inclusivity: It is very important to me that this is both a safe and supportive space for girls to explore a range of topics, whilst acknowledging the current complex landscape that surrounds gender. This club is currently open to cis girls who identify as such. In the future, I would love to expand this concept to mixed groups, boys only groups, and groups for individuals who may identify in other ways.
